Did he just say that?

So I do not want this to become a debate AT ALL, but I just can't stop thinking about this video I just watched.

Americas Choice Now

Obama is speaking of abortion and actually says "If my daughters make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." My jaw about hit my lap!!! Punished with a baby? As if it's something unfair that could happen to them. Everyone can debate on political topics, but I just don't see how this one is debatable! It's so sad!

I read this article on abortion from Russell M. Nelson in this months Ensign, and I LOVED this quote....
"We are free to think. We are free to plan. And we are free to do. But once an action has been taken, we are never free from its consequences."

I can't agree with that any more! You should go read the rest of his article. It's very very good!

How about you make me a really cute profile for my blog now. I want an actual blog and not a wedding one anymore. I can pay you in babysitting IOU's, deal? Ok, get on top of it.
And I need to be able to get on to it myself instead of going through yours. Can I do that?
Annnnndd I want to see my wedding video...

I Agree Julie!! He even wants no health care given if aborted babies are 3rd trimester and are alive and viable. Is he the anti-Christ?? Scarrrrrry!!!

  6. I had no idea he said that! I remember having to have an ultrasound with McKenna when I was 11 weeks along and she was a beautiful living thing...but that is still an okay time to abort a baby!~~ I cannot believe that!
My baby is no punishment, she can be hard, but she is the biggest blessing I have ever been given. Who in their right mind calls a baby a punishment!

  7. Hey Julie! I was looking at one of my old roomate's blog, and she had a link to who I thought was our other roomate, it turns out it wasn't, but anyway, her friend had your super cute pumpkin web lay-out. I thought that was cool :)
How are you guys? Hope everything's going well!
(I also really like your new lay-out. You do such a great job!)

  9. Hey, Julie! This is my first visit to your blog... I hope you don't mind me leaving a comment. Obviously, I totally support Brother Nelson's comments against abortion but I thought you may want to read the entire comment Obama made regarding this issue. If you only read the line you wrote on your blog, it is taken out of context. Here is the actual quote:

"This is an example where good people can disagree," the Illinois senator said. "The question then is, are there areas that we can agree to that everybody can get behind? We can all agree that we want to reduce teen pregnancies. We can all agree that we want to make sure that adoption is a viable option."

The exchange appeared to be prompted by Obama's earlier comments that he does not favor abstinence-only education, but rather comprehensive sexual education that includes information on abstinence and birth control.

"Look, I got two daughters — 9 years old and 6 years old," he said. "I am going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at age 16, so it doesn't make sense to not give them information."

I'm glad to see that he supports educating kids on, abstinence, birth control and ADOPTION! (BOTH of my kids were adopted) My personal opinion is that teaching abstinence, only, is unrealistic- unfortunately (Didn't work for Sarah Palin's daughter & that's what they teach in their own home)

It's definitely a difficult topic of conversation and certainly hard to express the thoughts and feelings behind what is intended when you are reading print... However I think the actual quote gives a more rounded view of what Obama was saying, rather then leaving it with "If my daughters make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby." I think his point was that we should educate these young people in our world so that they make better decisions that will hopefully keep them out of making more difficult ones in the future. And if that's the case, I'm ALL for it! : )

  10. Hey Amy,

I think in ANY context, to say that a baby is a punishment is absurd. And if you go to my post you can click on the link that takes you to a video of him saying this instead of just reading it.

Even if he did add the part on about STD's after that quote, I still think that too is ridiculous. If his daughters are going to sleep around then they're not being "punished" with STD's. They deserve them! If they kill someone while driving drunk is he going to expect them not to be "punished" with a consequence? Everyone has the right to choose their actions, NOT their consequence!

I too agree with teaching abstinence and educating kids on birth control and adoption. I never said I didn't. But I (like Sarah Palin) personally will not hand out condoms to my kids if they want to be sexually active. I will teach abstinence, and they will have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

    I don't agree with abortion.
Anyone who is morally ok with killing a baby is a horrible person. This is not an option we should give to our teenagers to save them some embarrassment.
