Alright fine!!!

OK I'll admit it. So Kelson sleeps in my bed. I know, I know. Such a mommy faux pas. I blame it on the colic. With Brynlie I was so obedient. She never ever slept with us and was a pro at sleeping actually. As I write this my dear baby boy is screaming his head off in his crib. I feel like the worst mother in the world! How do people do this?!?! I need this big boy out of my bed, but I don't know if I'm strong enough to do this! Would any of you like to share your own "cry it out" stories? Actually, instead why don't you just lie to me. Just tell me he'll stop crying and by tomorrow he'll be sleeping like a pro through the night. If I hear one more mom tell me their baby was sleeping through the night by 3 weeks I'm gonna hit them. Please help me before I cave!!! I fold like a napkin. AHHHHHHH

  1. I'm a bad liar. We had to let Claire scream her head off for over 3 hours one time before I gave up. They did eventually get through it, we sometimes still just have to let them cry to sleep, but it doesn't bother us and it doesn't take long anymore. They now more often just play/talk to sleep. Good luck, turn up the tv or the music so you can't hear as well, it helps.

  2. I read an article in either parents magazine or baby talk last month that was perfect for this. It said to put the baby to sleep in your bed and move him after he is a sleep. Eventually you wont even need to do this as he will figures things out. Maya was definately not sleeping through the night by three weeks. We are still on a on off patern. Also another suggestion is to put him in a porta crib in your room to transition, or make a bed in his room for a few nights. I am sorry you are having such a crappy time with him.

If it makes you feel better my mom did the cry it out thing when I was just about Kelson's age. She said she literally let me cry all day, and by night when my dad got home she had hives. The good part is she broke my habbit of 10-15 catnaps instead of naps. It was one helatious day, but it did work. I am with you, I don't like to hear crying. The most Maya has cried is 2 hours, and that is because Aaron would not let me near her.

  4. We totally had to let Jace do that! I either read or heard somewhere that the first night you are supposed to go in every 5 minutes and settle them down. Then the next night it's 10 minutes and so on. It took Jace about 1 1/2 weeks to get the hang of it. It's so rough! I hated every minute of it. But then I had gotten to the point that he wouldn't let me rock him anymore, so I had no choice. I swear, kids need an instruction manual. Kelson is so dang cute though!

Hang in there...it is tough, but he will make it and so will you. Only a few people have babies that sleep through the night at 3 weeks....like Mindi! I told her that one of these days she will have a REAL baby. My baby has bruises on his head...okay...I really am coming to get him!!! I can hardly wait to see those babes...funny, funny Brynlile and sweet baby Kelson. Love you guys.....

  6. Julie,
I am here to calm your troubles. I co sleep with my babies and I actually love it. Our culture is weird about it, but in almost all other cultures, babies sleep with their mamas. There is nothing wrong with it at all, and I remember with Sofia feeling weird about it like I would be judged, but it is the right choice for my family, and I don't care if other people think that it is weird. I also was reading in "Happy Sleep Habits, Healthy Babies," that babies with colic may literally not adapt to a crib easily and he actually acknowledges that is may be easier to have the baby with you. As for the transition.. it can suck, but if you are both ready he will adjust fine. Don't switch him over because of feeling pressure, but if you aren't happy with it any more. Sofia slept with us until she was like 17 months old, and that transition to her own room wasn't bad at all. Anywho.. that is my two sense. I just don't understand why cosleeping is so taboo.

  7. My, my Julie, that seems like such a pickle. I don't know how any of that feels cause my sweet little angels have sleept through the night since the day we brought them home...yes..and...and.. they also eat everything that they are given, especially veggies. My kids never fight and Macie is starting to change her own diapers.
But I wish you the best of luck!!!

  8. okay so we had olivia sleeping with us since day one, my parents did it with us girls and i loved it. at about 6 months she went full time to her crib. i don't think i will do this with our next child just because it is harder to switch to the crib. the hardest thing i have noticed with her is getting her to sleep through the night and we don't do anything special we just let her cry. really damon and i are waiting for the other one to get up and neither of us are going to do that so she eventually falls back to sleep. GOOD LUCK!

  9. Emmaline slept with us for a long time...(not that I'm really the best example...for like the first month I wouldn't put her down at all...I was afraid she'd get lonely [did I mention I was really hormonal :)] so I'd wait to go to the bathroom until Royce or my mom got home, so they could hold her...:)
But anyway, she slept with us until she was like 15mo old, and then we put her in her crib, because she was sleeping horribly in the bed, and she'd get too hot, and roll all night, and none of us were getting very good sleep, so we started putting her in her crib. It was rough for the first couple of nights, but then she was pretty good. I think it was easier too, because by then she wasn't eating in the night. So there's our sleeping story :) Haha...but she still goes to sleep with us every night...sometimes she wakes up when Royce takes her to her crib, but then she goes back to sleep. Since we're talking about confessions...when did Bryn start sleeping in a toddler bed? Just a little while ago we were out of town, and she slept in her own bed at the motel, but I had to keep jumping out of bed in the night to catch her when she'd fall out...is that normal??

  10. I absolutely 100% agree with "kara's blog" what she said anyway.. There is nothing wrong with letting your baby sleep with you. I think it's the most natural thing. And then when they get to be the age where you want them in their crib all night just put them to sleep first and transfer..I think someone mentioned that already too! Worked for us! I won't let my babies scream themselves to sleep.
